Expressive Style
Working in acrylic and finishing in oil -My practice uses layered washes to build organic, evolving forms beneath gestural linework and selective colour. Each piece emerges through improvisation and gradual layering, creating mood-first scenes that feel more felt than fixed. Viewers are invited to linger in the spaces where color softens into shape.
Expect vibrant colours and an overall sense of movement and immediacy, reflecting the joy and energy of your celebration rather than exact photographic detail.
Impressionist Style
Influenced by Impressionism, I explore how light dissolves colour and form through painterly, expressive strokes. Working across the canvas with oil paint, I observe the scene and translate them with fractured colour patches and shimmering highlights. My goal is to evoke the immediacy of perception: the way a moment feels under changing light, rather than a pinpointed likeness

The booking process
From initial chat to your finished masterpiece, here’s what you can expect when you book Cheryl Simpson Art for your live wedding painting.
Initial consultation
We'll begin with a quick consultation to discuss your vision, preferred style (Impressionist or Expressive), painting size, colour palettes and desired timing for the live painting at your venue. This helps me align on all the key details to ensure your painting truly reflects your special day.
Secure your date
Once we've confirmed the details, you can secure your wedding date with a non-refundable 30% deposit. You'll also receive and sign a contract outlining the scope of work, terms, and conditions, providing clarity and peace of mind.
Creative brief & coordination
I'll develop a comprehensive creative brief, outlining the specific scene to be captured, your preferred mood, colour palette, and the painting’s orientation. We'll also coordinate the live painting window (e.g., during cocktail hour, the ceremony, or after) and gather any essential reference materials or 'must-include' moments to ensure every detail is perfect.
The painting experience
On your wedding day, I'll arrive discreetly to set up and begin painting, capturing the atmosphere and emotions as they unfold. Your guests will enjoy watching the artwork come to life, adding an interactive and memorable element to your celebration.
Delivery of your artwork
After your wedding, I’ll take the painting back to my studio for final touches and varnishing. Once complete and perfectly preserved, your unique wedding artwork will be ready for collection or carefully shipped to your address free of charge within half an hours drive from Penrith (Western Sydney) or at a cost of $1 per kilometre, to and from your address beyond that and within Sydney, Australia.
You can then begin to enjoy your painting, becoming a cherished reminder of your most special day.
If you are outside of Sydney - No problem, I love to travel . My expences will of course be added to the package you choose.
